Minnetonka High School Orchestra Wins Gold at Music Festival

MHS Symphony Orchestra took first place and the Concert Orchestra took third at the Heritage Music Festival. The combined scores ranked Minnetonka No. 1 at the festival.

Minnetonka High School orchestras participated in the Heritage Music Festival in Anaheim, CA on Saturday, March 2. In the string orchestra category, Minnetonka’s Symphony Orchestra took first place and received a gold rating and the Concert Orchestra took third place and received a silver rating.

The Symphony Orchestra also won Outstanding Instrumental Group (for both band and orchestra). The combined scores of the two orchestras ranked Minnetonka as number one at the festival.

In an unprecedented move, three Minnetonka students received the Maestro Award, a recognition given to students who perform at the highest level. They are: Jacob Caswell (viola), Anna Erickson (violin) and John Baron (cello).

The adjudicators also awarded the Maestro Award to Minnetonka orchestra director, Sarah Finn-Sommerfeld, for excellence in directing/conducting. This is the first time in festival history that this award has been given to a director.
