Celebrate the Chinese New Year in Minnetonka

The free event gives local teachers and community volunteers the opportunity to showcase various Chinese traditions on Jan. 25.

Come celebrate the Year of the Snake!

The Minnetonka School District invites the community to the annual Chinese New Year celebration on Friday, Jan. 25, from 5:30-8 p.m. at Minnetonka High School located in the West Gym, Cafeteria and Student Commons.

The free event gives local teachers and community volunteers the opportunity to showcase various Chinese traditions with live entertainment, music, food, crafts and activities for the entire family.

Local Restaurants Beijing and Mandarin Yang of Minnetonka will be selling authentic Chinese food on site. (Cash only, please.)

The featured entertainment this year is the Chinese American Association of Minnesota (CAAM) Chinese Dance Theater and the School of Shaolin Kung Fu who will be performing in the West Gym. Minnetonka students will also perform throughout the evening in the West Gym.

The student-centered event is for elementary aged children, middle school, high school and children of every age. All Minnetonka residents and surrounding communities are encouraged to attend.

Performances

The program will begin at 6 p.m. (See attached PDF for the full schedule of events).

6:15 p.m. - Kindergarten 

6:25 p.m. - 1st Grade 

7 p.m. – Scenic Heights 2nd & 3rd Grade

7:20 p.m. – Excelsior 2nd & 3rd Grade 

7:50 p.m. – 4th & 5th Grade
