Proudest accomplishments in elective office: Elected and then re-elected to the Hopkins School Board, serving from January 2004 through December 2011. Elected by peers to two years as Treasurer followed by three years as Chair. Chaired and expanded the Hopkins School District Legislative Action Coalition, which has become a state and nationally known model for legislative advocacy. To ensure fiscal accountability, instituted and chaired first Board Audit Committee in a Minnesota school district. Awarded the Minnesota School Boards Association Director and President's Award.

In collaboration with my fellow school board members: Garnered the highest surveyed level of public trust for the Hopkins School Board in over a decade. Awarded the Minnesota School Boards Association District Award of Distinction.

In collaboration with district administration: Strengthened the district's $140 million annual budgeting process with the creation of a dynamic fiscal forecasting model. Moved district from negative to healthy positive fund balance. Received five awards (four state and one national) for excellence in fiscal management and reporting. Established a shared services and cooperative purchasing program to realize substantial savings and drive more dollars into the classroom Established the first fiscal literacy graduation requirement in the state of Minnesota. Established a high-quality preschool program to ensure children at risk come to school ready to learn. Added leading-edge opportunities in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics, which were recognized by the Minnesota High Tech Association. Expanded academic offerings, increased rigor, and instituted research-based programming with rigorous accountability in a fiscal challenging environment.

In collaboration with teachers: Created the first pay-for-performance program in the state. Established the first market driven salary structure for educators in Minnesota.

In collaboration with the business community: Created the first business task force to advocate for education at the legislature. Created a program that converts the state-mandated school reporting codes to a business-friendly financial statement now utilized by the Minnesota Department of Education. Partnered with the TwinWest Chamber of Commerce to promote programs that ensure all children come to kindergarten ready to learn and succeed.
