Police: Cleaning Lady Steals Jewelry

A Minnetonka homeowner reported three rings valued at $7,000 were missing from a jewelry box in her bedroom.

Tam Jean Caneff, 41, of Brooklyn Center, was charged with two felony counts of theft over $2,500 on Dec. 20.

On Sept. 10, officers took a jewelry theft report from a Minnetonka resident. The victim reported three rings valued at $7,000 were missing from a jewelry box located in her bedroom. The victim reported the only people who had access to the bedroom, aside from family, was a cleaning lady.

Officers searched the Automatic Pawn System and learned the Caneff had pawned several pieces of jewelry, including rings, in the past year. The stolen rings matched pawned items. Surveillance video confirmed that Caneff had pawned the victim’s missing rings. Officers learned the suspect cleaned another home in Golden Valley. Those homeowners also reported jewelry missing from their home in the amount of $5,000. Officers interviewed the suspect who allegedly admitted to the thefts due to financial difficulties.
