Patch Asks: Free Birth Control?

Patch invites all residents to stop by for a chat about topics that matter to the nation.

An announcement was made this week that by 2013 insurers must fully cover the full cost of birth control and other prevention services for women.

The law covers other prevention services covered without co-pays including annual physicals, breast pumps for nursing mothers, screening for diabetes during pregnancy and counseling on domestic violence. The morning-after pill is also considered birth control by the FDA.

The rules include an opt-out provision for religious institutions that oppose birth control.
