June Events at Minnetonka Libraries

Check out the June programs for the two Hennepin County libraries located in Minnetonka.

Hennepin County libraries are presenting hundreds of free programs for children, teens, and adults this summer, including book clubs, storytimes, and programs offered in collaboration with community organizations and businesses, such as the Guthrie Theater, the Minneapolis Institute of Arts, MacPhail Center for Arts, the Bakken Museum, and Three Rivers Park District. 

For Hennepin County Library’s program schedule, go online to www.hclib.org and click on Events & Classes at the top of the page. On the Events & Classes page, you can search for programs by library, by event type, by age level, and by keyword. Or stop by your library and pick up a copy of Hennepin County Library’s summer program guide beginning the week of May 20.

Socrates Café
Thursdays, June 7-Aug. 30, 7 p.m. at Ridgedale Library 
Sit back and philosophize with your friends and neighbors. The topic is decided by popular vote at the beginning of the meeting. All welcomed; no experience necessary. The concept of Socrates Café is based on the book of the same name by Christopher Phillips. 

Digital Scavenger Hunt

Entering grades 6-12. Use any camera to find all the items from our official list. Your name will be entered for a prize drawing upon completion of the hunt! Obtain complete details from the customer service desk at the library.

Used Book Sale
Saturday, June 16, 10 a.m.-4 p.m. at Ridgedale Library 
The Friends of the Library will hold a sale of hundreds of adult and children's fiction and nonfiction books in hardcover and paperback. Most books, withdrawn from the Hennepin County Library system or donated by the public, will be priced $1 or less. Funds raised will benefit the library.

Primitive Survival Skills

Art Out of the Box: Black and White and Read All Over
Tuesday, June 19, 1-2 p.m. at Ridgedale Library 
Registration required; begins May 22; limit 20. Entering grades 2-5. Artists can say a lot in just black and white. You'll investigate form and fiction found in sculpture from the Minneapolis Institute of Arts, then sculpt characters to tell your own stories. What story will your sculpture tell?

Act Out for Teens: Duke It Out
Wednesday, June 27, 1-2:30 p.m. at Ridgedale Library 
Registration required; begins May 30; limit 20. Entering grades 6-9. Learn the secrets of stage combat from an experienced Guthrie teaching artist. Slap, punch and kick without hurting anyone – just like actors do it on stage! It looks real, but it’s just pretend. No experience necessary! 
This project is funded with money from Minnesota's Arts and Cultural Heritage Fund.
