St. David’s Center Receives It's Largest Grant Ever at $2.25 Million

The Peter J. King Family Foundation grant will go to the center's Building Our Children's Future Capital Campaign.

St. David’s Center for Child & Family Development announced a grant award of $2.25 million from the Peter J. King Family Foundation for its Building Our Children’s Future Capital Campaign.

This is the largest gift ever received by the 53-year-old nonprofit, which specializes in early childhood education, and intervention and treatment for children with developmental needs, currently serving 2,200 children and families each year.

The grant will support improved and expanded facilities that, upon completion, will allow St. David’s Center to almost double its capacity to meet the growing community need for services for young children.

“This gift takes us many steps forward toward our goal, gets us that much closer to shovels in the ground, and puts us in a position to reach so many more children and families," said Julie Sjordal, St. David’s Center Executive Director.

St. David’s Center’s Building Our Children’s Future $12.25 million capital campaign is working to raise $8.5 million in private sector support to leverage a request for $3.75 million in state bond funding.

“When we see this level of support from the private sector, it gives me confidence that our bonding dollars can be an important tool in leveraging and echoing that private support,” said Senator Terri Bonoff, one of the authors of the bill to include St. David’s Center in the state’s bonding request. “St. David’s Center is tackling critical needs in early childhood development and as a result, young children are having great outcomes. I am hopeful that my colleagues will join me in supporting this important initiative.”
