A student-focused celebration is planned for Friday, Nov. 22.

Deephaven Elementary will be hosting an award program on Friday, Nov. 22 from 1:30-2:30 p.m. at the school for their recent 2013 National Blue Ribbon award.

The program will be student-focused with activities and songs.

U.S. Senator Amy Klobuchar and U.S. Representative Erik Paulsen are planning to attend the event and offer their congratulations.

In September, U.S. Secretary of Education Arne Duncan announced that Deephaven was one of 286 schools in the country to be selected as a 2013 National Blue Ribbon School, based on their overall academic excellence.

The school is also one of only 20 Minnesota schools to be named a Reward School by the Minnesota Department of Education for the third year in a row. Deephaven Elementary has a diverse socio-economic attendance area within the Minnetonka School District, with 13 percent of students qualifying for free and reduced lunch rates.
