Who Will Run For Minnetonka City Council, Mayor in the Fall Election?

The city of Minnetonka will hold municipal elections this fall.

City positions that will be on the November 5 general election ballot include mayor and the two at-large council seats. Filings for these offices opened Tuesday, May 21, and closed at 4:30 p.m. Tuesday, June 4.

Names of those who have filed are posted below.

Mayor
• Terry Schneider
• Grace Sheely

Council Member At Large Seat A

  • Dick Allendorf
  • Danny R. Martin (filed but then later withdrew)
  • Angela Griffin
Council Member At Large Seat B
  • Patty Acomb
  • Dan Martin
  • Brian Grogan
  • Rick Ranta
Will there be a primary?
If only one or two candidates filed for the seats, then there won’t be a primary—all candidates will go directly on the general election ballot, set for Nov. 5.

Since three or more candidates filed for the Council Member At Large Seat B, there will be a primary election this fall. This year’s city primary election will be held on Aug. 13. Check the city's Elections page for the latest status of a primary election.

Absentee voting
Absentee voting is available for those who are unable to get to the polling place on Election Day due to absence from the precinct, illness or disability, religious observance, or service as an election judge in another precinct. Absentee voting may be done in person or by mail. Absentee ballots for a possible city primary election will be available starting Friday, June 28. Absentee ballots for the November General Election will be available starting Sept. 20.

The first step to vote absentee by mail is to complete an application. Request an application by visiting the Absentee Voting page, calling city hall at 952-939-8200 or faxing a request to 952.939.8244. Once the application is received by the city, you will be mailed a ballot with instructions.
