MHS Theatre Wins SpotLight Awards for Aida
Minnetonka is the first high school in the state to win the SpotLight Musical Theatre Award for Outstanding Overall Production—the highest award possible—for two musicals in the same year. Aida earned 15 awards and The Secret Garden earned 13 awards.
Minnetonka High School Theatre was just awarded 15 SpotLight Musical Theatre Awards from the Hennepin Theatre Trust for its spring musical Elton John and Tim Rice’s Aida.
This year, rules were changed to allow schools to enter two shows. Minnetonka is the first high school in the state to win the SpotLight Musical Theatre Award for Outstanding Overall Production—the highest award possible—for two musicals in the same year. The fall musical, The Secret Garden, earned 13 SpotLight Awards.
Under the direction of Kent Knutson, MHS Theatre has won Outstanding Overall Production for eight consecutive years—every year since the SpotLight Musical Theatre Award Program's inception—for a total of 121 SpotLight Awards to date. Minnetonka students will perform at the 8th Annual SpotLight Showcase event on June 3, 2013 at 7 p.m. in front of over 2,400 people at the Orpheum Theatre. Tickets for the SpotLight Showcase are available for purchase for $15. Purchase tickets here.
