Minnetonka Athletes Rescue Lost Dog in BWCA

Five members of the Minnetonka High School boys cross country team helped reunite the pup with its owner, according to reports.

An 18-year-old University of Minnesota-Duluth student has been reunited with her dog, Tomah, thanks to five members of the Minnetonka High School boys cross country team.

According to the Star Tribune, Ashley Ross said Tomah disappeared while she was canoeing and camping with friends and family in the Boundary Waters the weekend of Saturday, July 20.

Ross left the trip with a broken heart and without her pup, but help was soon on the way.

According to the Strib, while setting up camp, Minnetonka's Riley Nelson, Jonny Croskey, Nate Janssen, Casey Halbmaier and Scott Kvidera noticed a message sprawled on a rock, reading: "Lost Dog. Named Tomah. Call DNR."

It wasn't too long before the dog was spotted, but she didn't get rescued willingly, according to MyFox9.com:

"She deftly escaped back into the woods, and after barking all night long, one runner saw Tomah sleeping and created a rope harness and placed her in a canoe, paddled to a drop-off point and took her to the U.S. Forest Service station in Tofte, Minn."
