Candidate Profile: Heidi Garcia

Patch talks with the candidates running for office in the 2013 Minnetonka School Board election.

There are four candidates for three Minnetonka School Board positions up for election this year. This feature looks at challenger Heidi Garcia.

What previous political experience do you have (including other governmental positions you’ve held, whether elected, appointed or volunteer)?

Although I have held many leadership and volunteer positions I have never run for political office before.

What other relevant experience do you have?

I have twenty-five years’ experience working in small businesses and large corporations.  My professional experience in sales, management, marketing, training and development will bring a unique perspective to the current board. I have managed many different size budgets, hired and trained employees, built consensus across diverse groups and been a leader in a wide range of organizations.

My district service includes PTO Co-President at Minnetonka Middle School West, School Board Candidate Forum Moderator, Vantage Program Mentor, Booster Club volunteer, Spanish Immersion fluency reading volunteer and Navigator Program steering committee member.

What is your occupation?

I am the owner of Sales Strategies Group, a small consulting business specializing in sales process development, sales strategy, talent development and training.

Where did you go to school? 

I attended the University of Minnesota where I earned a B.A in Communications and a Minor in Psychology. 

How old are you (optional)? I am 49 years old.

Do you have a spouse, children or any other family members you’d like to tell voters about?

My husband Chris Larus and I have lived in the Minnetonka School District for fourteen years and our two children have always attended Minnetonka schools.
