Swimmers Compete In State Finals Today

The Skippers are in position to win the state title after Tuesday's prelims. Special attention will be given to the relay cards this year.

The Minnetonka girls swimming team competes Wednesday in the state finals.

The preliminaries were Tuesday at the U of M Aquatic Center. Five individuals and all three relays advanced to today’s finals in the Class 2A meet at the University of Minnesota Aquatic Center.

The Minnetonka High School girls swim team has again put itself in position to earn its first state title in nearly 40 years. Last year, it appeared the team had won the state title, but ended in fourth place after the Minnesota State High School League found all three Minnetonka relay teams had entered illegally. The correct swimmers were not listed on the relay cards.

A fan bus is available to go to watch the finals. Students can sign up at Pagel Arena for $5.

The Skippers finished first among the eight teams that competed in the 6AA Section Championships, earning a total 515 points to top Eden Prairie (476 points) and Edina (462 points).
