STATE CHAMPS: Minnetonka Girls Get a Hockey Threepeat

The Skippers beat Hill-Murray Saturday in the Class AA state final to win three state titles in three years.

They did it. The Minnetonka High School girls hockey team has won three state titles in three years, a first in Minnesota hockey. The Skippers beat Hill-Murray in the championship game Saturday night, 3-1. Here's a game recap, according to the Minnesota State High School League: The top-seeded Minnetonka Skippers defended their title capturing their third consecutive championship defeating Hill-Murray 3-1 in the Class AA top game of the year. Minnetonka scored a goal in each period of the game. Senior forwards Darby Flatley netted the first goal at 2:56 of the first period, Amy Peterson hit the back of the net with her second period goal and Laura Bowman scored the insurance goal in the third period. The Skippers open state tournament play on Thursday, Feb. 21 at 6 p.m. vs. Irondale High School (19-8-1) at the Xcel Energy Center in St. Paul.
