Members of the Minnesota House voted to put a constitutional amendment defining marriage as between one man and one woman in front of voters on the 2012 ballot. Despite an emotional five-hour debate, the vote came in at 70-62, mostly along party lines, although four Republicans voted against the bill. The question will appear on the Minnesota ballot as a constitutional amendment in 2012. The debate consisted mostly of testimony from opponents of the bill. Local House Rep. Yesterday, State Sen. David W. Hann (R-District 42/ Eden Prairie & Minnetonka), a major legislative player in crafting the state's healthcare laws, dropped his effort against what he's called, "Obamacare." On Jan. 13, Sen. Hann, Chairman of the State Senate Health and Human Services Committee, introduced SF 33, dubbed the Freedom of Choice in Health Care Act.
