New Poll Says Support Is Falling for Marriage, Voter ID Amendments

Public Policy Polling suggests both amendments could fail.

With Election Day less than 48 hours away, on Sunday researchers at Public Policy Polling issued the results of a new survey suggesting both constitutional amendments on Minnesota's ballot this year could fail. PPP's poll estimated support for the first amendment, which would write an existing ban same-sex marriage into the state constitution, falling to 45 percent from 49 percent in the Star-Tribune's recent Minnesota Poll. Support for the second amendment, which would require voters show a state-issued photo ID when they vote, was pegged at 46 percent, with 51 percent opposed. That's a significant drop in support since recent polls estimating the amendment would pass with 53 percent of the vote.  The most recent KSTP/Survey USA poll, …

Election Guide: Polling Place Rules and Etiquette

Can you bring your children with you? Can you wear a campaign button for your favorite candidate or issue? Here are some polling place rules from the Secretary of State's Office.

Voting isn't as easy as showing up and checking a few boxes. There are things you cannot do when you vote in an election. Here are some frequently asked questions and answers from the Secretary of State's Office: Q: Can I bring my child with me when I vote on Election Day? A: Yes. A voter may bring their children with them to a polling place and the children may go with the parent into the voting booth. Q: May I bring a sample ballot from my political party or the newspaper into my polling place? A:Yes. Voters may bring a sample ballot from a newspaper or campaign flyer into the voting booth, as long as they take great care to conceal the material from other voters while outside the voting booth and take it with them when they leave. Q: …

Letter: Vote Gaither, Stefan, Wahlstedt and Anderson For Best Chance at Success

"They all are the adults needed in the room to represent us in spending our tax dollars wisely and reforming regulations in a smart manner."

To the Editor: Improving the business climate, growing jobs and prioritizing fiscal issues have never been so important. Senate District 44 voters have a great opportunity to make a very positive impact for their community. David Gaither for Senate, Sarah Anderson for House 44A and Mark Stefan for 44B are fabulous choices in this election. They all are the adults needed in the room to represent us in spending our tax dollars wisely and reforming regulations in a smart manner.  They understand how to prioritize. Mark Stefan may be someone you haven’t heard enough about.  He provides a great opportunity for House 44B to send an active business owner who actually knows how the economy works to the Capitol. Our current SD 44 Senator and House …

Letter: Yvonne Selcer is Driven and Dynamic

"Her enthusiasm for making Hopkins schools the best for all our children eventually led her to chair this committee which has become a national model for advocacy."

To the Editor: I first met Yvonne Selcer when she encouraged me to join the Hopkins District Legislation Action Committee. Her enthusiasm for making Hopkins schools the best for all our children eventually led her to chair this committee which has become a national model for advocacy. This, however wasn't enough for Yvonne.  When our schools started to have fiscal troubles, she spent two terms on the school board. She helped move the district from a negative to a positive fiscal balance. Now as she runs for State Representative, I urge you to join me in voting for this dynamic, driven and passionate candidate.     Lori Stein, Minnetonka

Letter: Why I’m Voting for Mark Stefan

"Mark Stefan is in this race because he genuinely believes that crushing debts and excessive government are making it harder for the next generation to achieve their dreams."

To the Editor: I’m supporting Mark Stefan for State Representative in 44B (Minnetonka).   I’ve had the opportunity to talk to Mark on a number of occasions during this campaign season and I wanted to share some insights for voters that maybe haven’t had that opportunity.  Mark immediately struck me as a bit unusual for someone running for office, and I mean that in the best possible way.  He’s not a career politician and he doesn’t have the smooth vagueness one often finds in career politicians.   Mark is a pragmatic minded small businessman, and if you ask him what he thinks about something he gives you a specific answer. The National Federation of Independent Businesses, the state’s biggest small business association, recently gave Mark …

Dave, I agree that professional politician wanna-be's make terrible politicians. I'd much rather have a citizen servant actually representing me, rather than someone who thinks they are a 'leader' simply because they are a politician. Sometimes such so-called "leaders" take us where we do not want to go. I'd much rather be truly represented than led.   more ›
