A Resident of Minnetonka, 'Dear Abby' Dies at 94

Famous advice columnist Pauline Esther Phillips, better known as 'Dear Abby,' lived in Minnetonka.

“Dear Abby” advice columnist Abigail Van Buren died Wednesday at the age of 94. Abby, whose real name was Pauline Esther Phillips, had been living in Minnetonka near family until her final days, according to the Associated Press. She died in Minneapolis after suffering from Alzheimer’s. Phillips created the Dear Abby column in 1956, and it appears in about 1,400 newspapers worldwide with a daily readership of more than 110 million people, according to Universal Press Syndicate. In 2002, as her health deteriorated, Phillips retired and her daughter became the new Abby. Read more here.
