And the Couple With the Greatest Love Story in Minnesota Is ...

Without further ado ... Richfield's Kyah Hanzal and Mike Hayek are the winners of Patch's Greatest Love Story in Minnesota contest, receiving nearly 50 percent of the vote. Their story was one of eight submitted to the contest. The couple not only gets bragging rights for the greatest love story in the state, but also a $50 gift card to D'Amico and Sons from Patch. Kyah submitted the couple's story and the following was how she told it: Once upon a time there was a girl named Kyah Hanzal from Richfield, MN who started going to school in Richfield with Mike Hayek in 3rd grade. Want a Valentine's Day Wedding? Hennepin 4th District Judges Will Do It Free

The services are being conducted to acknowledge people dedicated to public safety, but if time and space permit, county “civilian” couples will be married as well.

The following was released by Hennepin County: The Hennepin County Board of Commissioners approved a resolution allowing Hennepin County 4th Judicial District Court judges to conduct free marriage ceremonies on Valentine’s Day on the Hennepin County Government Center Public Service Level.  The services are being conducted to acknowledge people dedicated to public safety. Priority will be given to military (active duty, reserve, National Guard and veterans) and first responder (police, fire, EMT, sheriff’s deputies) couples. If time and space permit, county “civilian” couples as well.  The event is being done in collaboration with the county Taxpayer Services Department, which oversees the six county service centers (where couples can apply…

Valentine's Day 2013: Romantic Events in Three Rivers Parks

Planning your evening for Feb. 14? Want to celebrate Valentine’s Day earlier? Three Rivers Park District hosts a variety of activities Feb. 9-14, 2013.

Information provided by Three Rivers Park District. Victorian Valentine’s Dinner Saturday, Feb.  9, from 6-9 p.m. at The Landing-Minnesota River Heritage Park, Shakopee, for a “Victorian Valentine’s Dinner.” Listen to a pianist play romantic melodies as you have hors d’oeuvres and dinner in the intimate Town Hall. Then set out for an evening stroll in the candlelit Town Square where you visit several buildings, each offering a different dessert.  Dinner will be served from 6:30-7:30 p.m. Bring your own bottle of wine if you wish — must be 21 or older.  Cost is $35 per person and reservations are required by Feb. 6. Parents Talk: Ban Candy on Valentine's Day?

Some schools are keeping sweets out of the classroom.

What's Valentine's Day without candy? Some kids are finding out, as schools extend bans on classroom sweets to holiday celebrations out of concern for students' health. A Massachusetts school's decision to keep candy out has drawn national and international attention and criticism, as well as praise. Parents in Minneapolis, where a policy to promote better student health started last year, see messages like: "Students can bring valentines, but as you are shopping for valentines, please DO NOT purchase valentines with candy or send candy to school for the party."
