STATE CHAMPS: Three State Hockey Titles in Three Years

On Friday night, the Skippers had already cemented their place in state history when they defeated Lakeville North in the semifinals, winning 4-3 in six overtimes.

STATE CHAMPS: Minnetonka Girls Get a Hockey Threepeat

The Skippers beat Hill-Murray Saturday in the Class AA state final to win three state titles in three years.

They did it. The Minnetonka High School girls hockey team has won three state titles in three years, a first in Minnesota hockey. The Skippers beat Hill-Murray in the championship game Saturday night, 3-1. Here's a game recap, according to the Minnesota State High School League: The top-seeded Minnetonka Skippers defended their title capturing their third consecutive championship defeating Hill-Murray 3-1 in the Class AA top game of the year. Minnetonka scored a goal in each period of the game. Senior forwards Darby Flatley netted the first goal at 2:56 of the first period, Amy Peterson hit the back of the net with her second period goal and Laura Bowman scored the insurance goal in the third period. State Hockey: Minnetonka Defeats Irondale, 4-0

The Skippers head to the semifinals to play Lakeville North on Friday.

The Minnetonka High School girls hockey team defeated Irondale on Thursday in the state Class AA quarterfinals. The Skippers defeated the Knights 4-0.  According to the MSHSL recap:  Two-time defending AA champion Minnetonka (25-4-0) blanked Irondale (19-9-1) 4-0 in their quest to win their third consecutive state crown. The Skippers jumped out to an early 3-0 lead after one period. Minnetonka's first line of Diana Draayer, Amy Peterson, and Laura Bowman played strongly. Draayer's tally made it 2-0, with her linemates being credited with assists. Peterson scored on the power play in the second period putting Minnetonka up 4-0, and assisted on each of the first two goals. Hannah Behounek and Maggie Bazany had the other Skipper goals. Sydney…

Can the Skipper Girls Hockey Team Win Their Third State Title in a Row?

Minnetonka is the top-ranked team in the state tournament, and a third state title would be unprecedented.

They did it again. The Minnetonka High School girls hockey team (24-4) has won the Section 6AA Championship for the third year in a row. The Skippers are the two-time defending state champions (2011 and 2012) and start an unprecedented campaign toward a third state title. Minnetonka is top-ranked in the tournament, followed by Eden Prairie, Hill-Murray and Lakeville North. North Wright County, Irondale, Eagan and Forest Lake round out the competition. Last year, the Skippers beat Roseville in the championship game, and they beat Edina in 2011. Neither Roseville nor Edina qualified for this year's state tournament.
