The road construction season has officially begun.
Now that the weather has finally shaped up this week, crews are at work on Interstate 494. Drivers should be aware that multiple overnight lanes and ramp closures will be sprinkled throughout this week. The following is from MnDOT: At 10 p.m. May 6 through May 10, both directions of I-494 will be reduced to a single lane between Highway 100 and Xerxes Avenue. All lanes will re-open by 6 a.m. daily through May 10, and by 9 a.m. Saturday, May 11. At 10 p.m. Monday, May 6, and Wednesday, May 8, westbound I-494 between 12th Avenue South and Portland Avenue will be reduced to a single lane. All lanes will re-open by 6 a.m. the following day. The ramps will close at 9 p.m. and reopen by 5 a.m. the following morning.
Overnight closures of multiple ramps on Interstate 494 are scheduled to begin at 9 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 16 and last through Friday, Oct. 19. Each evening, ramps will close at 9 p.m. for resurfacing and are expected to reopen by 5 a.m. the following morning. The following ramps are part of the closures: According to a Minnesota Department of Transportation press release, the closures are weather dependeny and may be rescheduled if there is inclement weather. The project is yet another part of the I-494 Improvement Project.

The ramp closure switch will begin sometime late Friday or early Saturday morning.
As part of the Interstate 494 improvement project, new closures and openings are beginning Friday, Sept. 28 and ending early Sunday, Sept. 30. The ramps from southbound I-35W to westbound I-494 and westbound I-494 ramps to and from Penn Avenue will reopen late Friday or early Saturday morning. In addition, the ramp from southbound France Avenue to westbound I-494 will close Sunday night. Exact times of openings and closings have not been given by the Minnesota Department of Transportation. MnDOT said drivers should expect delays throughout Richfield, Bloomington and Edina when the change happens. The France Avenue closure is expected to last until late November. With construction of one of the new westbound I-494 auxiliary lanes underway, more ramps will be closed first thing Monday, Aug. 20 as crews continue working west. According to a Minnesota Department of Transportation release, crews are currently working on the lane between I-35W and Highway 100 and construction on the second lane between Portland and Nicollet avenues will begin soon. What gets me is that the state/city are always repaving the same roads every three years, it seems. Yet the roads continually fall apart. Look at the way Vernon Avenue from Hwy 100 to Gleason has fallen apart in just a few years since it was resurfaced. And that road gets very few trucks. more ›
