Bar Louie Coming to Ridgedale Center

The bar and restaurant will move into the old Applebee’s space.

A Bar Louie franchise is planned for the former Ridgedale Center Applebee’s site, according to plans filed with the City of Minnetonka. “Bar Louie is an eclectic bar and restaurant franchise that is finished in local architectural touches. It is famous for their handcrafted martini menu and American style food, traditionally and regionally inspired,” Ryan D. Haro—a project director with Tanek Inc., the architecture and design firm working on the project—wrote in the documents filed with the city. The restaurant, which also has a Minnesota franchise in Uptown, will occupy 7,000 square feet on the west side of the mall. Retailer H&M Plans Store in Ridgedale Center

Plans put H&M between the new Nordstrom store and Sears near the southeast entrance of the mall.

Ridgedale Center may be gaining another new store. Swedish clothing store H&M is planning a location in Minnetonka, according to Minneapolis-St. Paul Business Journal. The retailer already has five stores in the Twin Cities. Plans put H&M between the new Nordstrom store and Sears near the southeast entrance on the upper level of the mall, according to the Journal.  In early January, Macy’s announced the consolidation of Macy's Men's and Home store with its main Macy's store, creating space for Nordstrom in the former Macy's Men's and Home space. Minnetonka city officials have expressed interest in making Ridgedale into a destination instead of just a shopping center. Mayor Terry Schneider said Ridgedale could become a "mini downtown" with …

VIDEO: City of Minnetonka Plans Major Ridgedale Improvements

Mayor Terry Schneider said the city hopes to help turn Ridgedale Center into a destination instead of just a place to buy shoes.

In early January, Macy’s announced the consolidation of its two separate stores in Minnetonka's Ridgedale Center into one expanded location beginning in early 2014 freeing up space for a new Nordstrom store. But Minnetonka city officials don't want to stop there. They'd like to see Ridgedale become less of a shopping mall and more of a destination. At Wednesday's State of the City address, Mayor Terry Schneider said a new upscale restaurant will be added around the time Nordstrom joins retailers in the mall. "This will change the dynamics of the mall considerably," he said. "We would like to see a place where people can go for other things than just to buy a pair of shoes." Schneider said Ridgedale could become a "mini downtown" with neat …

Obituary: Kevin Sullivan, Advocate for the Disabled

The 51-year-old local man founded a company devoted to helping the disabled live independently.

Like many entrepreneurs, Kevin Sullivan figured he would have to take it upon himself to change something he didn't like. Sullivan was his own first client in 1991, when he founded a company devoted to helping the disabled live at home and, according to its mission, “control their lives and their health care needs in an atmosphere of independence.” In Sullivan’s time as the company’s founding executive, In Home Personal Care grew to serve and employ hundreds of people, and Sullivan established himself as one of Minnesota’s leading advocates for the disabled. On June 14, Sullivan was found dead, seated behind the wheel of his minivan, in the parking lot at the Ridgedale Byerly’s. He was 51. His mother, Laura Sullivan, recalled Kevin as a …

Ridgedale Macy's Manager Charged with Felony Theft

Employees grew suspicious of how gift cards were being used.

A former manager at Macy’s Ridgedale has been charged with stealing thousands of dollars worth of merchandise from that store. In a Jan. 18 criminal complaint, the Hennepin County District Attorney has charged Shannon Dee Denoma, 40, of Watertown, MN, with felony theft by swindle. According to the complaint, Denoma was an operations manager at Macy’s when, in July 2010, employees at that store grew suspicious about gift cards she was using. Minnetonka police interviewed Denoma and referred the case to the Hennepin County District Attorney. Denoma, who isn't in custody, couldn't be reached for comment, and a Macy's spokesperson wouldn't comment. Denoma’s first court appearance is scheduled for March 1.
