Abigail Hansen, who shared her college decision process with the country while blogging for the New York Times as a senior, returns to answer reader questions about being a freshman at the U of M.
A 2011 Minnetonka High School grad, Abby Hansen has returned to write for The New York Times. Two Minnetonka High School students were selected to blog about their college application process for The Times last year. Hansen and Rachel Yang were chosen for a group of eight high school seniors in the U.S. detailing their college search for readers. Each student writes on the blog once or twice a month throughout the school year. Now, Hanson has been invited back to answer reader questions about what college life is like after you’ve made your choice. Minnetonka High School Senior blogs "In the End, My Gut Decided Which College to Choose."
In Abby Hansen's fourth blog for The New York Times "In the End, My Gut Decided Which College to Choose," she has made a final college decision. She confirmed her admission to the University of Minnesota-Twin Cities for the fall of 2012 while watching Iowa State lose to Kentucky in a basketball game. "As I sat with my family in my living room, my gut twisting with nerves, I knew I was ready to make my decision final," Hansen wrote. She was accepted to all three universities to which she applied– the University of Minnesota, Iowa State University and University of Wisconsin, Madison. Having been accepted everywhere, Rachel Yang, a student at Minnetonka High School, must decide which college is right for her.
Rachel Yang's third blog for The New York Times, entitled "Still Undecided, With Less Than a Month to Choose," was published April 6. Now that she has been accepted to every college to which she had applied, Yang has less than a month to decide between six universities. "I’ll browse the online course catalogs," she wrote. "I’ll try on the college apparel from each school and decide what color is best on me (maybe my vanity will make the decision for me!)." Two Minnetonka High School students were selected to blog about their college application process for The Times. Yang and Abby Hansen were chosen for a group of eight high school seniors in the U.S. detailing their college search for readers. Each student writes on the blog once or twice…

The New York Times publishes Abby Hansen's third blog: "Happier, Perhaps, to Attend a State University Instead of an Ivy League School."
In Abby Hansen's third blog for The New York Times "Happier, Perhaps, to Attend a State University Instead of an Ivy League School," she wonders why her classmates are so quick to discount state schools. During a conversation about college, Hansen had this to say about a friend: "When asked the usual question he responded with “I’ll either be somewhere on the East Coast, or at the University of Minnesota in shame." With all the perks the U of M has to offer Hansen, who plans on becoming a veterinarian, she wonders what more an Ivy League school could possibly do for her. Two Minnetonka High School students were selected to blog about their college application process for The Times. Hansen and Rachel Yang were chosen for a group of eight …

In Abby Hansen's second blog for The New York Times "True Love Can Be Fleeting, Especially When Its Object Is a College," she writes about falling in love with a university that just doesn't seem to return the feelings. "It’s like trying to fit a square peg into a round hole—something just isn’t clicking," she writes.
