Hennepin County librarians have a couple of days off coming up.
Hennepin County libraries will be closed on Dec. 24 and 25 (Christmas Eve and Christmas Day), and Jan. 1 (New Year’s Day). Also, all libraries usually open on Mondays will close at 5 p.m. on Monday, Dec. 31 For library hours and locations: http://www.hclib.org/pub/info/locations.cfm. Do you have some “steampunk” books on your coffee table? Chances are, if you have a teen in the house, you do. “’Steampunk’ is a fairly new genre that combines alternate history and low-tech machines that can do very high-tech things,” said Johannah Genett, Hennepin County Library program librarian. Teen Read Month, which begins Oct. 1 at Hennepin County libraries, is a great time for teens and parents to learn about this and other recent teen reading trends, enjoy special activities, and make the most of their library’s teen resources. Free programs for young readers, clubs and other activities for teens, computer classes, writing labs, author programs, job search assistance, multicultural events, arts and craft workshops, genealogy research tips, and lifelong learning for all will be presented free in September at Hennepin County libraries. July events at Minnetonka libraries include an anime lantern festival, teen book clubs and family story time.
“Bookawocky,” Hennepin County Library’s summer program series for kids and teens, is in full swing at local libraries.
