A total of anywhere from 9 to 15 inches is expected to fall on Minnetonka by the time all is said and done, with the National Weather Service in Chanhassen forecasting snowfall to wrap up Sunday evening. Snow and ice has covered the city.
Snow and ice covered Minnetonka most of the day, making Wednesday’s morning commute treacherous. The area saw as much as six inches of snow in spots. The National Weather Service has the metro under a winter storm warning until 7 p.m. and is advising against travel. According to the NWS, "Considerable blowing and drifting [will result] in poor visibility...drivers are urged to slow down.” The Minnesota Department of Transportation has treated the pavement along many area roads. Minnetonka residents can heavy snow to fall between now and dawn tomorrow.
Snow is falling in Minnetonka. Five to six inches of snow is expected to blanket the area by Tuesday morning. According to The National Weather Service, "Snowfall rates during the heaviest snow are expected to be between one and two inches per hour. This snow will have significant impacts on the evening commutes." A winter storm warning is in effect now until tomorrow morning for the Minnetonka area. According to the Minnesota Department of Transportation motorists in Minnetonka are seeing, "difficult driving conditions, heavy snow, slippery, treated pavement." As the snow mounts so does the list of cancelled activities.
A foot of snow has already fallen in Minnetonka. And according to the National Weather Service, Minnetonka can expect at least another couple of inches before midnight tonight. According to the NWS advisory, "Heavy snow on Saturday combined with increasing wind speeds may result in near blizzard conditions." Right now, the Minnesota Department of Transportation is reporting "difficult" driving conditions on Highway 7 and County Road 101 in Minnetonka. Overnight, 58 car crashes, four of those with injuries, and 198 spin outs, were reported in the metro area—that's according to Lt. Eric Roeske of the Minnesota State Patrol.
