The Skippers battled Lakeville North in a six OT marathon for the win in the semifinals. They face Hill-Murray for the championship tomorrow.
Minnetonka has a chance at a threepeat state title and has cemented their place in state history. The Minnetonka High School girls hockey team defeated Lakeville North on Friday in the state Class AA semifinals, winning 4-3 in six overtimes. It was the longest game in state tournament hockey play, begining Friday at 8:48 p.m. and ending Saturday at 1:02 a.m. (total time of 4:14). The winning goal was made by Amy Petersen. The Skippers will face Hill-Murray on Saturday, Feb. 23 at 7 p.m. for the state title. During Friday's 6 p.m. semifinal matchup of Eden Prairie and Hill-Murray, Hill-Murray came out on top 2-1. The Skippers beat the Orioles 5-1 on Nov. 29 and Hibbing 6-1 the next day.
The Skipper boys hockey team is off to a great start. In their first regular 2012-2013 season game, the Minnetonka Skippers boys varsity hockey team took a healthy win against the Osseo Orioles, 5-1. Scoring for Minnetonka was #9 Max Coatta and #10 Charlie Huminski in the first period. A second period goal came from #40 Tommy Brandabur followed by third period goals by #10 Charlie Huminski and #18 AJ Klein. The Orioles #16 Rudy Alexander scored the lone goal for Osseo in the third period. On Friday, Nov. 30, the Skippers went on to beat Hibbing 6-1. The Minnesota State High School League announced this spring it will move to a six-class, 11-man state tournament beginning in 2012.
Whichever team makes it to the state football tournament out of the new Section 6AAAAAA tournament will certainly earn it. The Minnesota State High School League announced this spring it will move to a six-class, 11-man state tournament beginning in 2012. The 32-team Class 6A will have four sections—3, 4 5 and 6—with eight teams in each section. And if recent history tells us anything, Section 6AAAAAA looks to be the gateway to the state championship. Section 6AAAAAA will have Minnetonka, Eden Prairie, Edina, Hopkins, Robbinsdale Armstrong, Shakopee, Wayzata and Minneapolis South competing for a trip to state. Eden Prairie downs Minnetonka in back-to-back championship games on Thursday.
It was a rough Thursday the Minnetonka boys and girls lacrosse teams as Eden Prairie ended the season for both in back-to-back Section 6 championship games at Robbinsdale Armstrong High School on Thursday night. Boys Lacrosse: Eden Prairie 9, Minnetonka 7 After the two teams split their regular-season series and tying for the Lake Conference championship, Eden Prairie got the last laugh on Minnetonka by defeating the Skippers, 9-7, for the Section 6 boys lacrosse title. The Eagles led the Skippers 5-4 at halftime, but went on to claim the victory after out-scoring Minnetonka 3-1 in the third quarter. The Minnetonka Boy's Lacrosse team never trailed in their match with Maple Grove on Tuesday night resulting in a 16-9 final.
They now move on to play Eden Prairie at Armstrong for a chance to go on to the State Tournament.

The Minnetonka Skippers boys defeated the Wayzata Trojans 11 - 5 in boys lacrosse.
Lake Conference rivals Minnetonka Skippers and the Wayzata Trojans boys' lacrosse clashed on Monday night at Minnetonka High School. The Skippers jumped out to a 4 - 0 lead in the first quarter. Midway through the second quarter the Trojans climbed to within two at 5 - 3. However Wayzata couldn't quite recover Minnetonka's quick start. The Skippers defeated the Trojans by a final score of 11 - 5.

Minnetonka teams bask under sunny skies on Tuesday and Wednesday.
Tuesday and Wednesday featured two of the most ideal back-to-back days of the spring sports season so far and sports teams from Minnetonka High School made the most of it with a full schedule of events. Baseball: Skippers 6, Eden Prairie 2 Pitcher Alex Twenge struck out six batters in a complete-game victory as the Minnetonka baseball team won a battle for the top spot in the Lake Conference at Eden Prairie, 6-2, on Wednesday night. David Dolan hit a home run for the Skippers in the victory that improved the team to 9-1 overall and 4-1 in the conference; Eden Prairie is now 4-2 in the Lake, with both losses coming to Minnetonka. The Hornets fell victim to the Skippers 6-5 in Lake Conference play.
Minnetonka defeated Edina 6-5 in a Lake Conference game Friday evening. Edina had 6 hits and 3 errors, while Minnetonka had 9 hits and 3 errors. The starting pitcher for Minnetonka was Andrew Weber. The starting pitcher for Edina was Grant Welsh.

Teammates Andrew Sutton and Nic Schweisthal lost a pair of matches at Friday's state tournament.
The Minnetonka wrestling team sent two individuals to Friday’s Class AAA state tournament, and both will be coming home empty handed. Andrew Sutton lost both his matches in the 135-pound weight class Friday at the Xcel Energy Center and was eliminated from the tournament. His teammate, Nic Schweisthal, also lost his first two matches at 160 pounds and is headed home. Schweisthal was eliminated by Moorhead’s Chase Morlock 8-1, while Sutton lost his final match to Andover’s Sam Stewart by fall at 3:50.
