Autumn leaves are beautiful, but they can also create lots of work for homeowners. The Public Works facility (11522 Minnetonka Blvd) accepts leaves and yard waste from Minnetonka residents. You must present proper identification to verify you are a Minnetonka resident (driver’s license, state I.D., or Minnetonka utility bill). No loads of leaves will be accepted from commercial lawn services without proof of residency of the address the leaves are from. During the busiest times, there will be expanded drop-off days. In addition to the normal operating schedule, the site will be open on Friday, Nov. 2, 9 and 16, from 12–6 p.m., and Sunday, Nov. 4, 11 and 18, from 12–4 p.m. If you have other means of handling your leaves such as collection …

The brush and leaf drop-off programs for Minnetonka residents open this week. The brush drop-off program for Minnetonka residents will open Saturday, April 7, from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. This is two days earlier than previously announced. Brush drop-off remains open until Nov. 18. The leaf drop-off program opens Monday, April 9. Spring leaf drop-off ends Sunday, May 13. On Monday and Tuesday the brush site at Minntonka Public Works is open from noon to 8 p.m. On Saturdays, the site is open from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. The brush drop-off site will be closed on the following holidays: Memorial Day, May 28 and Labor Day, Sept. 3. Trace contaminates were found, but levels were within environmental standards.
Minnetonka’s drinking water is safe—that’s the news out this week from the city’s annual report on local drinking water. “The quality of the city’s water is excellent [and] has no harmful bacteria or contaminants that exceed accepted standards,” said Minnetonka Spokesperson Jacque Larson. While lead, copper, radon and other contaminants were detected in trace amounts, none were detected at levels violating federal drinking water standards. Larson says the city has “absolutely no” health concerns and that it's reasonable for drinking water, including bottled water, to contain at least small amounts of some contaminants. Minnetonka's giving you a hand with your spring cleaning. Starting tomorrow, Minnetonka residents can drop off household hazardous waste and consumer electronics at the Minnetonka Public Works Facility. The Hennepin County household hazardous waste community collection will go on Thursday, Friday and Saturday, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. City officials predict that Saturday will be the busiest day—so be prepared to wait in line. The HHW drop-off is open to any city resident, but will only accept items from households. No hazardous waste or problem materials can be dropped off by businesses, including home businesses or non-profit organizations. With our water coming from 18 different wells, tells us our water quality could change day to day depending on which well is supplying us that particular day, then the water could travel up to 3 miles under ground thru very old pipes, absorbing everything thats in the pipes.
