City Considers New Microbrewery

New agenda for Planning Commission meeting tonight.

Tonight, the Minnetonka Planning Commission will hear from the owner of Lucid Brewing, Eric Biermann, who would like to operate a production microbrewery and distribution center at 6020 Culligan Way in Minnetonka. While no alcohol would be sold for on-site consumption, according to a staff report from city planners, future brewery tours have not been ruled out. “Anecdotally, many microbreweries have tours and events, particularly if their brews become popular,” that report says. As it stands, the city has no standard classification for this kind of business, so a “condition use permit” is being considered so that the business can move forward. Minnetonka Zoning Fight Has Statewide Impact

Litigation between neighbors over the size of a garage has halted remodeling projects across the state.

Bob Boyer's construction business, Boyer Building Corp., has been building and remodeling homes in Minnetonka for sixty years. But recently they've lost a $1 million worth of business because jobs had to be scrapped. "Some projects that we would be doing, we won't be doing," he said. The reason: Neither Boyer's company nor his clients can get the necessary permits to start work, whether it's to add a deck to a house or renovate a garage. Boyer and builders around the state are the casualties of a legal battle between Minnetonka neighbors over how cities modify ordinances or grant zoning variances. I totally agree with Krummenacher and the Supreme Court. This article in Patch, however, leans incredibly in favor of the planning commission. Poor Ms. Liebler who simply wants to practice yoga in a cute little "Hobbit House" in her neighborhood's front yard. She just wants "peace".
