The fundraiser will help renovate the Minnetonka Middle School West Pool.
The Minnetonka Swim Club is hosting its fourth annual Swim-A-Thon at 6:45 a.m. May 11 at Minnetonka Middle School East. Most of the money raised this year will go toward the renovation of the Minnetonka Middle School West pool. The club produced the video above to show what makes the Swim-A-Thon so fun. Three students were selected to be part of a 20-member jazz ensemble.
The following was released by Minnetonka Schools: Three Minnetonka Middle School West (MMW) students have been selected to be members of the Inaugural 7-8 Grade Honor Jazz Band sponsored by the Minnesota Band Directors Association (MBDA). Congratulations to these eighth grade musicians: • Ceci Stratton, trombone • Anna Barnard, alto saxophone • Benjamin Ogilvie, piano These three students were selected to be part of a 20-member jazz ensemble. More than 60 students from across the state auditioned. Students are selected based on a recorded audition which is evaluated by qualified music educators. Minnetonka Middle School West defeated Math and Science Academy of Woodbury to win the championship of Minnesota Academy of Science’s Minnesota State Regional Science Bowl for Middle School Students. The competition was Feb. 11 at the University of St. Thomas School of Engineering. Congratulations to the MMW team of Nathan Steckman, Samuel Zattera, Liam Gong, Keegan Scouler and Arjun Viswanathan. The team was coached by MMW science teachers Mitchell Elvebak and Jennifer Matejka. They won a team trophy, individual medals and will represent Minnesota in the upcoming Department of Energy National Science Bowl, April 26-30, in Washington, D.C. Without leaving the classroom, students at Minnetonka Middle School West engage in a world-class arts experience.
Last week, eighth-graders at Minnetonka Middle School West put on their dancing shoes. Students in drama teacher Danielle Pittel's class learned Flamenco and modern dance through The Cowles Center’s Distance Learning Program. Without leaving the classroom, professional dancers in Minneapolis utilized a two-way interactive, real-time teaching environment. Students and dancers were able to see each other on a large projection screen while taking instruction and asking questions. Students learned various rhythmic patterns, dance steps from the Flamenco tradition, the verses to a “Tangos” song, as well as the cultural elements of the dance and music of Spain.
