State Champs: Minnetonka Girls Alpine Ski Team

After losing to them in the sections tournament, Minnetonka beat Blake 172 points to 155 points.

The Minnetonka High School girls Alpine ski team won the state meet on Feb. 13 at Giants Ridge.  The team was the state champion in 2011, finished state runner-up in 2012, and entered state this year as the Section 6AA runner-up (losing to Blake by one point in sectionals). At state, Minnetonka beat Blake 172 points to 155 points. Megan Greiner was the top Minnetonka finisher, taking fifth place. Anna Ewald finished 13th, Madison Gartner finished 17th and Marlee Gartner finished in 20th place. The boys Alpine ski team, the defending state champions, finished third in the section 6AA meet on Feb. 7 at Afton Alps so they didn't move onto state.  Ducan Hurrelbrink (12) and John Landa (11) qualified for the individual state meet. Minnetonka Girls Alpine Team Finishes Season Undefeated

The team will compete at sections on Thursday, Feb. 7 at Afton Alps.

The Minnetonka High School girls alpine ski team won their last conference meet Tuesday at Buck Hill, finishing off their season with an undefeated record. The team will compete at sections on Thursday, Feb. 7 at Afton Alps. Last week at Buck Hill, the girls beat teams in their conference by a 99-point deferential to second place Edina, gliding by Wayzata, Edina, Orono and Hopkins.  The Minnetonka boys team will also not be easily beaten. There's a tight race between the boys in the Lake Conference, with 8.5 points separating the top four teams–Edina, Eden Prairie, Orono and Minnetonka.

Minnetonka Boys Win State, Girls Team Is Runner-Up In Alpine Ski

Minnetonka's Alpine ski teams did well at state.

This year in the State Alpine Ski meet, Minnetonka High School girls and boys flip-flopped on last year's results. Last year's second place winners, the boys team took gold this time at Giants Ridge in Biwabik. Last year's champions, the girls took second place this time, losing by only 3 points to Hermantown. First Time to State Tourney for Minnetonka Nordic Ski Team

The boys will compete on Thursday, Feb. 16 at Giants Ridge.

The Minnetonka High School boys Nordic ski team placed first in the Section 5 meet at Theodore Wirth Park on Feb. 9.  The boys team defeated a strong Eden Prairie team to win the team title.  Minnetonka won with overall champion Zach Goldberg (12) and runner-up Marcus Speca (12). The team will compete on Thursday, Feb. 16, at Giants Ridge.  This is the boys first state tournament appearance as a team in known history.

Minnetonka's Alpine ski teams are ready for state. The Minnetonka High School girls and boys teams swept Thursday’s Section 5 meet at Afton Alps and will move onto the state contest. Minnetonka’s girls are the defending state team champion, winning the 2011 State Alpine Ski Meet with 149 points. Minnetonka’s boys were second in the 2011 state team meet last season.
