Brooklyn Center police say two suspects led officers down Highway 169 before they were arrested near Minnetonka Boulevard.
A police chase Thursday morning began in Brooklyn Center and continued through New Hope and Golden Valley, before ending in Minnetonka. At about 2:40 a.m. Jan. 3, a Brooklyn Center police officer spotted two people driving a stolen car in a parking lot near Shingle Creek Parkway and Freeway Boulevard. When the officer tried to stop the car, the driver accelerated and took police on a 14-mile chase. According to Brooklyn Center Police Department Investigative Commander Tim Gannon, an adult male and adult female drove westbound on Interstate 694 and continued southbound on Highway 169 through New Hope and Golden Valley. A Minnetonka man died in an accident around 4 p.m. April 4 off Hwy 169 at Bass Lake Road in Plymouth and included a Plymouth man in the other vehicle.
According to the Hennepin County Medical Examiner's Office, a Minnetonka man died in a motorcycle-vehicle accident April 4 in Plymouth. He was wearing his helmet. At about 4:05 p.m. Gene Kokesh, 58, of Minnetonka was on his Yamaha motorcycle exiting southbound Highway 169 at westbound Bass Lake Road at the border of Plymouth and New Hope when he lost control of the bike. According to the Minnesota State Patrol, Kokesh went across the westbound lanes, jumped the median divider and got thrown from his motorcycle. Kokesh and his bike collided with another vehicle. The driver of the second vehicle was Luke Midura, 32, of Plymouth, who was driving in a Chevy Silverado and had no apparent injuries. Midura was on the eastbound side of Bass Lake …

A 65-year-old Fairmont man died in the crash near Mankato.
A Minnetonka teen was a passenger in a car involved in a fatal crash Saturday near Mankato. Sean H. Tyree, 19, of Minnetonka was one of four teens in a Toyota Prius that was heading south on Highway 15, about 25 miles southwest of Mankato, just before 11 a.m. when it crossed the center line and hit a Ford Escape, according to the State Patrol. The driver of the SUV, Gary R. Fenrich, 65, of Fairmont, was killed. Jean A. Fenrich, 59, was taken to Hennepin County Medical Center to be treated for injuries. Nathanial Ira Cornely, 22, died after being badly burned.
The man, who police suspect in separate incidents of assault and arson Thursday night, has died from injuries he also sustained in a fiery crash off Interstate 394 that evening. According to the Minnesota State Patrol, Nathanial Ira Cornely, 22, of Bloomington, was not wearing his seatbelt at the time of the accident. Just after 10 p.m. July 7, the 1997 Nissan sedan Cornely was driving eastbound along Interstate 394 left the roadway, broke through the fence that separates the interstate from Ridgedale Drive and crash-landed in front of the Slumberland Furniture store. A series of new TV spots is hitting Minnesota airwaves next week to accompany extra DWI patrols hitting road this summer — the deadliest time for alcohol-related crashes. The Minnesota Department of Public Safety, Office of Traffic Safety campaign will be specifically targeting the biggest DWI offenders, men ages 21–34.
Also, extra summertime DWI patrols will kick-off on June 17. “The campaign takes phrases and images familiar to drinking drivers and flips them to reflect the serious negative consequences,” said Jean Ryan, DPS impaired driving programs coordinator.
