Another Half Foot of Snow Expected in Minnetonka

The National Weather Service in Chanahssen has issued a Winter Storm Warning for much of East and Central Minnesota, including the Twin Cities. The storm will hit Thursday night into Friday morning.

At this point, we may all be April's fools. The second major snowfall in a little more than a week is expected to slam into the Twin Cities area Thursday night and drop up to six inches of fresh snow on the Minnetonka area by Friday morning, marking the second straight Friday residents here will wake up to white.  While last Thursday's snow totals came in under forecasted amounts, this storm is packing some moisture with it, and the Twin Cities area should see snow beginning Thursday night and extending into Friday.  That should create yet another messy, miserable commute for Friday morning as well. The winter weather advisory remained in effect through Wednesday afternoon. Sleet, freezing rain and rain are expected to diminish and any new accumulation will be in the form of snow – between 2 and 4 inches around Minnetonka, according to the National Weather Service – Chanhassen. Power outages were reported Wednesday morning in and around Minnetonka. Xcel Energy said crews are busy restoring 11,000 outages in the metro this morning. To report an outage, call Xcel at 1-800-895-1999. They expect most customers experiencing outages to have their service restored by noon today. From 9 p.m. Tuesday night through 6 a.m. this morning, 84 vehicle crashes were reported in Minnesota with 71 in the metro area – with 19 of those involving injuries…

When November rolls around, folks in Minnesota and Wisconsin know that snow is coming soon. But it's still a bit of a surprise when it starts to fall for the first time each year. Snow started falling in the Twin Cities area before noon Saturday, and anywhere from 2 to 4 inches was expected to accumulate, according to the National Weather Service. That's what I meant. I was driving on ice and snow today in Golden Valley and everyone had predicted there would be a messy slush and that it would melt within hours. I realize it will probably melt in the next couple days, Michael. Something tells me you're a smart alec:)   more ›
