I-494 N Ramp to I-394 E Is Closed in Minnetonka

To ensure the safety of motorists and workers, the ramp will remain closed until work is complete.

The ramp from I-494 North to I-394 East in Minnetonka is closed for repair of a water main and upgrades to the storm sewer, both of which are located directly adjacent to the ramp. To ensure the safety of motorists and workers, the ramp will remain closed until work is complete. The city understands this is an inconvenience and every effort will be made to complete these critical repairs as quickly as possible. Motorists may use the remaining ramps to detour around the closure and enter I-394 to Minneapolis. (Take the I-394 West ramp then follow the I-494 South exit ramp. Multiple Overnight I-494 Lane Closures Begin Monday

The road construction season has officially begun.

Now that the weather has finally shaped up this week, crews are at work on Interstate 494. Drivers should be aware that multiple overnight lanes and ramp closures will be sprinkled throughout this week. The following is from MnDOT: At 10 p.m. May 6 through May 10, both directions of I-494 will be reduced to a single lane between Highway 100 and Xerxes Avenue. All lanes will re-open by 6 a.m. daily through May 10, and by 9 a.m. Saturday, May 11.  At 10 p.m. Monday, May 6, and Wednesday, May 8, westbound I-494 between 12th Avenue South and Portland Avenue will be reduced to a single lane. What gets me is that the state/city are always repaving the same roads every three years, it seems. Yet the roads continually fall apart. Look at the way Vernon Avenue from Hwy 100 to Gleason has fallen apart in just a few years since it was resurfaced. And that road gets very few trucks.   more ›

West Metro Monday Morning Commute Slippery and Long

Packs of snow and ice on the road resulted in road incidents and travel delays.

The winter storm that hit Minnesota over the weekend brought over a foot of snow in some cities and dangerous road conditions. By the Monday morning commute, many major roads were in fair condition, but not perfect. Slippery and hardened snow packed areas led to morning road troubles and lengthy commutes, according to the Star Tribune. The evening commute should be better, WCCO reported, as the Minnesota Department of Transportation continues to clear the road. Exit Ramp From I-494 to I-394 in Minnetonka Closes Tuesday Morning

To fix a water main leak, the exit ramp from northbound I-494 to eastbound I-394 will be closed at 9 a.m.

On Tuesday, Dec. 10, starting at 9 a.m., the exit ramp from northbound I-494 to eastbound I-394 will be closed for repair of a water main leak. Portable message signs were put up at the location Wednesday, Dec. 5, to notify motorists of the upcoming closure. A detour will be posted. The closure is necessary as city of Minnetonka crews locate and repair a broken water main beneath the ramp. The ramp will reopen by 3 p.m. Friday, Dec. 14, weather permitting. Overnight I-494 Ramp Closures Begin Tuesday

The ramps will close at 9 p.m. and reopen by 5 a.m. the following morning.

Overnight closures of multiple ramps on Interstate 494 are scheduled to begin at 9 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 16 and last through Friday, Oct. 19. Each evening, ramps will close at 9 p.m. for resurfacing and are expected to reopen by 5 a.m. the following morning. The following ramps are part of the closures: According to a Minnesota Department of Transportation press release, the closures are weather dependeny and may be rescheduled if there is inclement weather. The project is yet another part of the I-494 Improvement Project.

Southbound I-494 Will Be Closed July 20–22

Motorists will be detoured to eastbound I-94/I-694, southbound Highway 169 and westbound I-394.

Drivers, plan another route than I-494 again this weekend. Southbound I-494 between County Road 6 in Plymouth and I-394 in Minnetonka will close at 10 p.m. on Friday, July 20, and will re-open by 5 a.m. on Sunday, July 22. During the closure, motorists will be detoured to eastbound I-94/I-694, southbound Highway 169 and westbound I-394. The closure is needed as MnDOT crews continue a resurfacing project in this area. The resurfacing will create a smoother ride for motorists and extend the lifespan of the roadway. The entire project is expected to be completed by early August.
