Updated: Police Chase Stolen Car Through Golden Valley And St. Louis Park

Brooklyn Center police say two suspects led officers down Highway 169 before they were arrested near Minnetonka Boulevard.

A police chase Thursday morning began in Brooklyn Center and continued through New Hope and Golden Valley, before ending in Minnetonka. At about 2:40 a.m. Jan. 3, a Brooklyn Center police officer spotted two people driving a stolen car in a parking lot near Shingle Creek Parkway and Freeway Boulevard. When the officer tried to stop the car, the driver accelerated and took police on a 14-mile chase. According to Brooklyn Center Police Department Investigative Commander Tim Gannon, an adult male and adult female drove westbound on Interstate 694 and continued southbound on Highway 169 through New Hope and Golden Valley. Gannon said New Hope police and Minnesota State Patrol assisted in the pursuit. On Highway 169, scanner information …

West Metro Monday Morning Commute Slippery and Long

Packs of snow and ice on the road resulted in road incidents and travel delays.

The winter storm that hit Minnesota over the weekend brought over a foot of snow in some cities and dangerous road conditions. By the Monday morning commute, many major roads were in fair condition, but not perfect. Slippery and hardened snow packed areas led to morning road troubles and lengthy commutes, according to the Star Tribune. The evening commute should be better, WCCO reported, as the Minnesota Department of Transportation continues to clear the road. Here’s a look at some of the traffic incidents in the West Metro as reported by MnDOT. Interstate 494  Highway 169  Minnesota Highway 5 US-212 In the West Metro, Lt. Eric Roeske with the Minnesota State Patrol reported that from 9:30 p.m. on Saturday through 10 a.m. Monday morning …

UPDATE: Bren Road Bridge to Be Removed Friday

No legal action neccessary as city gets to work on the Bren/Hwy. 169 interchange.

The Bren Road bridge will be removed Friday, July 29. Demolition and debris removal requires a full shutdown of Minnesota Highway 169 in both directions, from County Road 62 to Excelsior Boulevard from 10 p.m. Friday through 5 a.m. Monday, Aug. 1. The Minnesota Department of Transportation (MnDOT) stopped work on the Highway 169/Bren Road interchange project during the state shutdown and, last week, the City of Minnetonka considered taking legal action against MnDOT. Now that the project is back on track, the issue is water under the soon-to-be-demolished bridge. Preparing the complete closure of the highway, crews will partially close lanes on Highway 169 from 6 to 10 p.m. Friday. Crews will work around the clock during the bridge closure…

UPDATE: Minnetonka to Sue MnDOT?

The Highway 169/Bren Road interchange project closed during the government shutdown.

Although the ink is now dry on the state’s budget and the government shutdown has officially ended, implications of the shutdown may be far from over for the city of Minnetonka—and its budget. The reason: the Minnesota Department of Transportation (MnDOT) stopped work on the Highway 169/Bren Road interchange project during the shutdown. City officials said the decision was avoidable, and warned it could be expensive. And now, Minnetonka is considering taking legal action against MnDOT. Members of the Minnetonka City Council reportedly met in a closed-door session with Minnetonka City Attorney Desyl Peterson on June 11 to talk about possible litigation. While city officials have declined to give any more details on the meeting, citing …

Highway 169 Ramps Close

Work at the Bren Road interchange will bring detours and delays from spring through fall.

The Bren Road/Highway 169 interchange in Minnetonka is undergoing major changes. And as part of the renovation, the Highway 169 ramps north of the bridge that lead to and from Bren Road are closing. Starting today, the southbound Highway 169 ramp to Bren Road will be closed for seven days, re-opening June 7. Then, on June 2, the northbound Highway 169 ramp from Bren Road will be closed for seven days, re-opening June 9. City officials hope that this staggered closure of the Highway 169 ramps will help facilitate construction activity. Motorists familiar with the area are encouraged to use Shady Oak Road to avoid the construction zone. This closure is part of the construction project that will rebuild the Bren Road Bridge, which spans …
