Residents learned about the Hennepin County Sheriff’s Office at an open house April 26 Sheriff’s Enforcement Services Division in Brooklyn Park. The annual event included K-9 demonstrations, vehicles, boats and equipment to tour, dive team underwater demonstration, crime scene investigators and displays, fingerprinting booth, mounted patrol horse and more. The Hennepin County Sheriff's Office is holding its annual open house Friday at the patrol headquarters in Brooklyn Park. The event will be held from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at 9401 83rd Ave. N., Brooklyn Park. There also will be gun locks available "while supplies last," according to a Thursday news release. “For those who have a firearm in their home, this lock will provide an additional safety measure for storage,” Stanek said in a Thursday news release. “Safely securing and handling a weapon is especially important in households with children or households where children may visit, such as a grandparent’s home.” There will be canine demonstrations and a fingerprinting booth at the event, according to a news release on the Sheriff's Office …

Sheriff Rich Stanek presided over the swearing-in ceremony Monday night.
Hennepin County Sheriff Rich Stanek swore in 27 new detention deputies and 30 new deputy sheriffs Monday night, according to a news release from the sheriff's office. Deputy Haissan Hussein was among those who received their badge. "He is the first Somali American to be sworn-in as a deputy sheriff in Hennepin County," according to the news release. “We want Hennepin County Sheriff’s Office personnel to reflect the communities we serve and Deputy Hussein is an asset to public safety and our efforts to work in partnership with the Somali American community in Hennepin County,” Stanek said in the news release. With the explosions at the Boston Marathon, the Sheriff’s Office is asking people to be vigilant.

Today, authorities are investigating explosions at the Boston Marathon that have killed two people and have injured approximately 100 others. According to state, local and national security sources, there are no known threats in Minnesota or Hennepin County. As a reminder, the Hennepin County Sheriff’s Office urges citizens to be engaged in public safety in our community by reporting suspicious activity. If you “see something, say something.” Citizens should call 911 or contact local law enforcement. Grissom, an HCSO Narcotics K9, has retired after nine years of service to the Hennepin County Sheriff’s Office. His deputy partner will keep him at home and he will spend his retirement as a family pet. He is credited with the seizure of approximately 3,349.32 lbs of marijuana, 28 lbs of methamphetamine, 1.5 lbs of heroin, 127 lbs of cocaine, 4.1 lbs of crack cocaine, 209 grams of mushrooms, 135.5 grams of hash, and 1,839 tabs of ecstasy, as well as $2,249,700 in US currency. Up to $1,000 is available for information that leads to the arrest of any of the suspects.
The Hennepin County Sheriff's Office is asking for help locating its most wanted criminals. All fugitives have felony warrants issued for their arrest. The Sheriff's Office reminds citizens to not approach or attempt to apprehend any of the suspects, as they should all be considered dangerous. A maximum $1,000 cash reward is available to anyone with information that leads to the arrest of any of the suspects. People with information on any of the fugitives are encouraged to call:

On Feb. 25, a groundbreaking ceremony was held at the future site of the Hennepin County Sheriff’s Office 911 Emergency Communications Facility in Plymouth. The new facility will ensure uninterrupted service for 911 calls, radio dispatch, and technical services.
