Skippers rally from 27-20 second-half deficit, but can't connect in game's final minutes for the victory.
Tenth-ranked Buffalo used a strong inside game to hand the Minnetonka Skippers the team’s second loss of the season Friday evening, winning 49-47. Courtney Fredrickson drained a 3-point field goal to bring the Skippers within one at 48-47 with 1:03 to play. Minnetonka then had a chance to tie the game but turned the ball over and Buffalo’s Jamie High made one of two free throws with 4.1 seconds left. Minnetonka got the ball into the front court with about two seconds to play after a time out, but couldn’t get off a shot before the final buzzer. Minnetonka's defense had a hard time stopping Buffalo's 6-1 junior center Emily Spier. "We get hurt inside because we're out-sized really almost all the time," said Minnetonka head coach Leah …

Hopkins girls basketball coach Brian Cosgriff has seen more then a few good players comes through the doors in his 14 seasons as the head of one of the best teams—not only in Minnesota, but in the country. Even among that elite group, though, Royals starting center Gracia Hutson stands out. “Gracia is the best defensive post player I have ever coached,” Cosgriff said. Hutson is talented enough to have earned a scholarship to play next year at Division I University of Vermont after being recruited by schools such as Northern Iowa, New Mexico and North Dakota State. “I love playing defense”, the second-year starter said. “You can’t be lazy and play good defense. You have to work at it and learn that one of the keys is to use your feet and …

Minnetonka's Skippers lead 26-19 at the half but couldn't stick with host Benilde-St. Margaret's in the second half and drop first game of the season.
Undefeated Minnetonka had things in hand at the half and still with nine minutes left to play, leading by seven. But host Benilde-St. Margaret's went on a 17-4 tear in the middle of the second half and the Red Knights knocked off previously undefeated Minnetonka, ranked No. 3 in Class 4A, by a 55-48 count. "That was a tough loss," said Minnetonka head coach Leah Dasovich. "A loss that we should have had as a win, to a good team, though. Not a game that you hang your head on. Maybe something that we needed to experience early in the season here." Minnetonka rolled into Tuesday’s game with six straight wins to start the season and had throttled Class 3A seventh-ranked New Prague 66-36 in its last game. BSM’s poise and experience proved to …
