Paulsen Post: Medical Device Tax Repeal Gathering Support

Congressman Erik Paulsen says 181 federal lawmakers have pledged support to a bill that would repeal "innovation" tax.

Last week, I spent a lot of time in Minnesota visiting schools, small businesses, and hosting roundtables with local law enforcement and medical device innovators. I also had great participation in a telephone town hall meeting and several Congress on Your Corner events, which are more intimate one-on-one town hall style opportunities to hear directly from you. Thanks to everyone that participated; your feedback ensures I am able to represent you more effectively. And this week in Washington, I was busy rolling out my renewed effort to stop the medical device tax that is negatively affecting Minnesota's economy and stifling job creation. The new tax started in January, resulting in thousands of layoffs and less innovation, which means …

Congressman Paulsen Talks Gun Control, John Kerry and 'Fiscal Sanity'

Thursday's "Congress on Your Corner" event gave constituents a chance to speak with the Third District congressman about a wide range of issues.

Congressman Erik Paulsen hosted a “Congress on Your Corner” event at the Cub Foods in Chanhassan yesterday, where he spoke with about a dozen constituents from throughout the Third District about a broad range of federal issues. Kevin Crystal from Chanhassan came to speak with Paulsen about proposed gun control legislation, and to voice his opposition to any restriction of Second Amendments rights. “I told him I’m against gun control and encouraged him to vote against it, because it’s not effective,” Crystal said. Proposed gun control being advocated by President Barack Obama was a common thread among the conversations Paulsen had Thursday, and the third-term Republican congressman said he was unconvinced that further restricting gun laws …

Congressman Paulsen Addresses Pending Fiscal Cliff

United States Congressman Erik Paulsen: "My top priorities are to stop the tax hikes set to take place on Jan. 1 and pass comprehensive tax reform so we can grow our economy and bring in more revenue to help get Washington’s fiscal house in order."

Working Across the Aisle to Avert the Jobs Cliff There’s been a lot of talk in the news recently about the upcoming “fiscal cliff”—something I’ve been sounding the alarm bells about for months. Under current law, taxes are scheduled to increase on Jan. 1 for all Americans unless Congress takes action. This would be a significant hit to the economy, which is why I refer to it as a “jobs cliff.” There’s also a series of automatic spending cuts that will be imposed at year's end that many say should be altered to be more strategically targeted rather than simply imposed across the board. My top priorities are to stop the tax hikes set to take place on Jan. 1 and pass comprehensive tax reform so we can grow our economy and bring in more …

Paulsen Post: Working to Repeal Medicare Advisory Board

Paulsen: "IPAB is a powerful new board of 15 unelected and unaccountable bureaucrats whose task will be to save Medicare money by setting reimbursement rates for specific procedures."

Dear Friends, First, I just want to thank those who took the time to attend my "Congress on Your Corner" events recently. These sessions give me great input, and I appreciate hearing your views on a wide variety of issues such as high gas prices, the economy, the national debt, and health care. This week in Washington, legislation which I cosponsored banning insider trading for members of Congress finally made its way to the President for his signature. Here is an update on some other activities for the week. Let me know whenever I can be of assistance and keep in touch. I had an additional question for Mr. Paulsen: I have read that the budget put forth by Rep. Paul Ryan called for changing Medicare to a VOUCHER system. Such a change would take Medicare from the cost effective program now in place, one with 3% operating costs and NO profit motive, and replace it with for-profit companies. That would put our most vulnerable citizens - our seniors - at the mercy of…   more ›

Paulsen Post: Highest Priority Is Job Creation

Congressman Erik Paulsen says for the first time since World War II, Congress has cut discretionary spending for two years in a row promoting an environment where job creators can begin to expand their payrolls and get Minnesotans back to work.

Dear Friends, These first couple weeks of the New Year have provided me an opportunity to visit with neighbors, students, teachers, seniors, and many small business job creators in our community. I’ve listened and gathered ideas on what you believe should be a priority in 2012. I encourage all of you to continue to join the conversation and stay in touch by visiting my website, Facebook page, and Twitter. 2012: No Higher Priority than Job Creation Since the beginning of the 112th Congress, the focus has been on efforts to turn around our stagnant economy, solve our nation’s debt crisis, and get America on a path to economic prosperity once again. We’ve begun to change the culture in Washington by banning earmarks and cutting our budgets …

Creating jobs is the center of our issues in the United States. While in 2012 we are now facing a lower unemployment rate, we need to be innovative in creating jobs so that trends such as this stay on a continual path ensuring our success in this recovery. A way to help this is to make it easier to conduct business by reviewing and revising regulations that can sometimes stand in the way of …   more ›

Provisions include extending payroll tax cut and call for action on controversial oil pipeline.

by U.S. Congressman Erik Paulsen This week, the House of Representatives passed the bipartisan Middle Class Tax Relief & Job Creation Act which will create an immediate 20,000 new jobs and help struggling Americans who are out of work. Here’s a summary of what the legislation contains: Extends 100 percent business expensing through 2012 to make it easier for job creators and small businesses to invest now in new machinery and equipment, grow their businesses and create jobs. The bill ensures a decision on the Keystone XL energy pipeline unless the President determines the project is not in the national interest. The project would create thousands of American jobs and increase America's energy security. Similar legislation has already …
