Want To Learn How County Government Works?

Hennepin County is now taking registrations for their Citizens Academy.

The following was released by Hennepin County: Have you ever wondered how county taxes are assessed and where your tax money goes? Would you like to learn what goes into plowing county roads every winter? The Hennepin County Citizens Academy helps residents better understand the scope of county government by giving attendees the chance to interact face-to-face with county leaders and elected officials, including the commissioners, county administrator, sheriff, county attorney and department directors. Behind-the-scenes tours also give residents the chance to see their county government in action. Sessions will be held weekly at facilities throughout the county on Wednesdays from 6:30–9 p.m. April 3 through May 15. Each session will cover …

Minnetonka Citizen Academy

The 2011 program meets Tuesdays through February and early March.

Minnetonka residents who want to learn about more about their local government works have signed up for the 2011 Minnetonka Citizen Academy. The program is run by the city and helps residents understand the inner-workings of local government. "We want people to know who we are and what we do," said Jacque Larson, Minnetonka community relations manager and organizer of the Citizen Academy.  "This is a great setting where the residents are not upset about an issue, but are eager to learn about their city and how to go about correcting any future issues or problems."  The Citizen Academy meets 7-9 p.m. Tuesdays in February and early March.
