Family of Accent Signage Victim Sues Company, Shooter's Estate

The family of Jake Beneke of Maple Grove says the company should have known shooter Andrew Engeldinger could turn violent.

In a lawsuit recently filed in Hennepin County court, the family of a man killed in last year's Accent Signage massacre is suing the company founded by the late St. Louis Park resident Reuven Rahamim. Rami Cooks, a Minnetonka resident who was second in command to Rahamim, was also shot and killed that day. The estate of shooter Andrew Engeldinger is also named as a defendant. Engledinger gunned down six co-workers in September 2012 after being fired, including Maple Grove resident Jake Beneke, whose family has filed the suit. The lawsuit alleges Accent Signage managers knew Engeldinger was an unstable and potentially violent person, and should have taken more precautions when firing him. Obama in Minneapolis: 'Gun Control Is About Saving Lives'

President called on voters to pressure their legislators to pass gun control measures.

Speaking to a crowd of local dignitaries and law enforcement officers on Monday, President Barack Obama called on voters to pressure Congress to act on curbing gun violence. "We've suffered too much pain to stand by and do nothing," he said.  "We don't have to agree on everything to agree it's time to do something," he added. What did the Twin Cities think about Obama's visit on social media? Adopting universal background checks, banning military-style assault weapons, limiting ammunition magazines to 10 rounds, and putting more police officers on the street are "common sense," bipartisan measures to reduce gun violence, the President said. UPDATED: Former Employee Opens Fire, Kills Five, Self at Minneapolis Business

A shooting Thursday at a Minneapolis neighborhood business has sent ripples throughout the Twin Cities as victims are identified. The suspect, who Minneapolis Police confirmed was released from his job earlier that day, killed himself.

UPDATE (5:51 p.m. Friday, Sept. 28) Minneaplis Police had reported earlier that Engeldinger returned to the workplace in the afternoon after being fired the morning of Sept. 27. Police now say the earlier reports were incorrect and Engeldinger was brought into the front office at the end of the work day to be terminated and then took out the weapon and began shooting in the office. ******* UPDATE (4:30 p.m. Friday, Sept. 28) - Minneapolis Police and staff at Hennepin County Medical Center have confirmed a sixth victim in the shooting at Accent Signage Systems has died.  The victim's name has not been released.  More information on the five people kiled by Andrew Engeldinger Thursday afternoon is expected soon.  Engeldinger, who shot and …
