Hopkins’ Sam Seliger-Swenson and Minnetonka’s Hannah Weidner were selected to be on Breakdown Sports USA’s 2013 Volleyball Guidebook.
Hopkins volleyball player Sam Seliger-Swenson and Minnetonka’s Hannah Weidner have been selected as two of 21 players to appear on the cover of Breakdown Sports USA’s Volleyball Guidebook. The company selected top athletes for the cover of its annual guide, seen by hundreds of people across the county. Seliger-Swenson, who also appeared on last year’s cover, is ranked as the top sophomore, according to Breakdown Sports. Weidner is ranked 13th among juniors. This year’s guidebook features profiles of 750 players—including more than 300 players profiled with a photo and short Q&A. It’s now on sale for $69.99. Click here for details on how to order. A Minnetonka runner was among the 72 who finished the Trail Mix 50K on April 13, 2013 at Hyland Lake Park Reserve in Bloomington. Christina Stavig, 33, finished in 5:53:07, placing 41st. Finishers in the 50K race ranged in age from 22 to 69 years old. First across the finish line among male racers was Jason Tischer, 38, of Blaine, with a time of 3:59:44. For women it was Sonya Decker, 46, of Minneapolis, with a time of 4:46:12. The Trail Mix is three races in one: Three different cross-country trail races are offered: 50K Ultra (solo), 25K (solo), and 50K Team (4-person teams/12.5K each runner). A judge in Los Angeles gave his stamp of approval Friday to a settlement of divorce proceedings between NBA player Kris Humphries and celebrity Kim Kardashian, the Associated Press reported. The pair shared his home in Mound during their 72-day marriage in 2011. Humphries, who plays for the Brooklyn Nets, is a native of Minnetonka and attended Hopkins High School, leading the school to a state championship in 2002. He was Mr. Basketball in 2003. The Minnetonka Swim Club is hosting its fourth annual Swim-A-Thon at 6:45 a.m. May 11 at Minnetonka Middle School East. Most of the money raised this year will go toward the renovation of the Minnetonka Middle School West pool. The club produced the video above to show what makes the Swim-A-Thon so fun.
