Dating from the 1870s, Burwell House is on the National Register of Historic Places and is also a designated…More Minnetonka Landmark. The house is a Victorian home, built in the Italianate style. The house originally belonged to Charles Burwell, Manager of the Minnetonka Mill Company. The five-acre site includes the main house, a millworker's cottage, a woodshed and an ice house.
Burwell House is the perfect place for a scenic outdoor lunch. You can listen to Minnehaha creek and enjoy the beauty of the home and grounds. Many have been known to paint landscapes on the Burwell House lawns.
The house is open for tours from June through August, with Saturday tours only in May and September. Although tours are free, donations are encouraged.
Two big events take place at Burwell House each year. The Ice Cream social happens on the fourth Saturday in June and visitors enjoy entertainment, food, house tours and an antique market. On either the first or second weekend of December, stop by for the Holiday Open House. You can marvel at the Victorian Christmas decorations during a tour of the house.
