The Minnetonka Police Department is made up of 56 sworn officers and 19 non-sworn support staff members, with an annualMore budget of $8.5 million. The department is organized into two divisions: the patrol division and support/investigative services division The Department also has six officers assigned as school liaison officers in the Hopkins and Minnetonka school districts and it participates in the Southwest Hennepin County Drug Task Force. Minnetonka has its own 9-1-1 public safety answering point, which ensures emergency assistance for police, medical and fire requests. A useful feature which the Minnetonka Police Department offers residents is the interactive crime map -- now with a click of a button, residents can see where crime is happening in the city of Minnetonka.

It's estimated that 260,000 people use the Minnetonka Ice Arena every year. Throughout the year, the city offersMore public skating hours, skating lessons, and adult hockey at the Minnetonka Ice Arena. It's home to the Lake Minnetonka Figure Skating Club, Hopkins and Minnetonka Youth Hockey Associations. Also, the high school hockey programs from both Minnetonka and Hopkins School Districts use the Minnetonka Ice Arena as their practice and game facility. Lessons are available for skaters of all ages and abilities. Want to try a workout on the ice? Try the Fit & Trim program every Wednesday at 9:30am.

Gatewood Elementary is a part of the Hopkins Public School District. It offers education for children inMore kindergarten through the 6th grade. The regular school day schedule is from 9:30am to 4:05pm. There is a half day kindergarten program available here as well. The principal is Donna Montgomery. The school uses an "Electronic Backpack" system which gives parents access to all relevant forms and notices online by using the school's website. This school serves students who reside in Eden Prairie, Minnetonka and Hopkins.

Minnetonka High School is the only public high school in the Minnetonka school district. Every day, more than 2,800More students matriculate through a rigorous academic program that includes 21 Advanced Placement (AP) classes in subjects like calculus, macroeconomics, literature, composition, psychology, history, government, fine arts, statistics, chemistry, physics and biology. In addition to the AP program, Minnetonka High School offers the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme. 

Home to the Skippers, Minnetonka High School is one of the few high schools in the west metro area offering a traditional high school math sequence, which includes geometry, trigonometry, pre-calculus, calculus and statistics.

MHS is equipped with state-of-the-art technology in the media center, physics labs, technology education labs and architectural design classrooms. Thanks to a voter-approved referenda, $5 million will be spent every year on technology and classroom equipment through the year 2017. 

MHS has been recognized as a school district of excellence by the United States Department of Education. In addition to excellence in academics, teachers and faculty at Minnetonka High School stress excellence in activities, arts and athletics.
