Obituary: Theresa Ackerman Berman

The funeral service is 11 a.m. on Sunday at Adath Jeshurun Congregation in Minnetonka.

From a press release: Dear National Council of Jewish Women Members and Friends, We are saddened to announce that Theresa Ackerman Berman passed away Thursday, just one month after her 100th birthday. We lost an NCJW pioneer. A woman ahead of her time, Theresa was a leader, an artist, a philanthropist and a cherished matriarch. She will be remembered for her devotion to social justice, her elegance, graciousness and relentless energy for leading a full and meaningful life. Theresa served as the President of the NCJW Minneapolis Board from 1950-1954, and on the National Board from 1957-1963. Under her leadership NCJW started Council House, a center for older adults that sparked the Senior Center movement that has survived and thrived across…

Obituary: Ann Vincent Stevenson

A private family service will honor the Minnetonka resident.

Ann Vincent Stevenson, of Minnetonka, was born May 23, 1923, and died August 17, 2012. She is survived by twin sister Elizabeth Dunnavan; sister, Jean Haverstock (Jim); nieces, Leslie Aksomitas (Mark), Mary Dunnavan (Roger Gross) and Susan Dunnavan (Terry O’Neill); nephews, Steve Haverstock (Nori) and Ray Haverstock (Faye) and special friend Mary Wagner. Adored by all her great nieces and nephews. Ann attended Northrop Collegiate School and Mt. Vernon College in Washington DC. She worked most of her career in the securities business. For many years she volunteered for STEP and other organizations. Annie was a fun loving, generous, and no one defied authority more angelically. She was always cheerful and a great storyteller. Saturday Night Live's Tom Davis Dies at Age 59, Has Ties to Minnetonka

Davis's mother is a resident of Minnetonka.

Today's news of the early death of a celebrity has Minnetonka ties. Tom Davis, a former Saturday Night Live writer and comedy partner of Sen. Al Franken, died at age 59 from metastatic tonsil cancer. His mother, Jean Davis, is a resident of Minnetonka.  Davis and Franken began writing jokes together as teens at the private Blake School in Minneapolis. Franken named his daughter in his best friend's honor, Thomasin Davis Franken. Obituary: Olha Breslawec

Funeral services are Saturday, July 14 at 10 a.m. at St. Michael’s & St. George’s Ukrainian Orthodox Church in Minneapolis.

Olha Breslawec July 23rd, 1925 ~ July 11th, 2012 At age 86, she finished her work on earth on July 11, 2012 with her family gathered around her at her home in Minnetonka, MN.  Preceded in death by her parents, Mychajlo and Eufrosyna Hnojewyj, and brother, Anatol. Born in Ukraine, Olha and her family immigrated to the United States in 1950. Olha was a devoted wife, mother, and teacher.  She dedicated her life to raising her children and to educating countless non-English speaking students in the Minneapolis Public School system.  Olha was also an active member of the Ukrainian community in Minnesota. OBITUARY: Minnie H. Larson of Minnetonka

The former owner of the Ben Franklin Store in Plymouth passed away this month.

Minnie H. Larson, 98, of Freedom Pointe in Minnetonka passed away May 15, 2012. Larson was born Sept. 15, 1913. She is survived by son David Larson; daughter Karen (Richard) Orrock; grandchildren Jon, Dee Ann, Tracy, Shelly, Jim & Kelly; many great grandchildren; brother Pete Sprigler, sister Jane Neville.   Preceded in death by husband Arnold and 7 siblings. Minnie was the former owner of the Ben Franklin Store in Plymouth, active at the Plymouth Senior Center and loved to play cards at Brookview and Leisure Age. LaVerne M. Baier (nee Arnold), 86 of Minnetonka, passed away on Oct. 28, 2011 and greeted in Heaven by her parents, two sisters and brother. LaVerne is survived by children: Bernard, Susan, Mary, Denis and Terry; grandchildren: Sherri, Donald, Thomas, Mary, Megan, Justin, Stacy and Eugene; eight great grandchildren; sister, Shirley Hovelsrud; and many relatives and friends. She is deeply beloved and will be dearly missed. The memorial service is 11 a.m. on Friday, Nov. 4, at The Church of St Bartholomew (Chapel), 630 E. Wayzata Blvd in Wayzata.
