Free Family Fun Day: Backyard Birding

Sunday, June 9, from 1-3 p.m., at Kroening Interpretive Center, in North Mississippi Regional Park, Minneapolis. Learn about the common birds we see and hear in our area, and make a hummingbird feeder made out of recycled materials to attract hummingbirds to your backyard. This program is being held in conjunction with the Urban Birding Festival. This program is free and open to all ages.

Sunday, June 9, from 1-3 p.m., at Eastman Nature Center, in Elm Creek Park Reserve, Dayton. Stop by to visit our resident great horned owl. Examine owl artifacts and hear their calls. Bring a camera for close-up shots. This program is free and open to all ages.

Sunday, June 9, from 3-4 p.m., at Richardson Nature Center, in Hyland Lake Park Reserve, Bloomington. Join a naturalist on the prairie and try your hand at catching some of the insects that call our beautiful prairie home. This program is free and open to all ages.

Silverwood Summer Concert Series

Sunday, June 9, from 6:30-8:30 p.m., at Silverwood Park, St Anthony. Pack a picnic, blanket, lawn chairs, friends and family for a relaxing evening of outdoor music. The amphitheater stage will come alive during our summer concert series featuring local performers and music inspired by the beautiful setting. This concert series is made possible by the Metropolitan Regional Arts Council’s Community Arts Grant and is funded by the Arts and Cultural Heritage Fund of the Minnesota Clean Water, Land and Legacy Amendment. In case of rain, concerts will be held inside the Visitor Center. This program is free and open to all ages.

Wondrous Pond Critters

Saturday, June 15, from 1-2:30 p.m., at Eastman Nature Center, in Elm Creek Park Reserve, Dayton. Grab a net and discover the weird, wiggling, wondrous creatures that live in the pond. Investigate which are the fastest, fiercest, and funniest. Find out how aquatic insects reflect water quality. Handouts are included. Cost is $5 and this program is for ages 6+.

Saturday Morning on the Farm

Saturday, June 15, from 9:30 a.m.-noon, at Gale Woods Farm, Minnetrista. Explore the Gale Woods Farm barn where you can meet animals, assist a Gale Woods farmer with chores, and participate in other seasonal farm activities. Reservations are not required. All ages are welcome; the program fee is charged for ages 2 and up. Cost is $5.
