Quinn McManus Kirsch, an 8-year-old Edina boy who died unexpectedly on Jan. 7 from myocarditis, will be honored this Saturday with a hockey jamboree to celebrate his favorite sport.

The "Quinn's Cup" competition will start 9 a.m. on Jan. 11 in Centennial Lakes Park.

Twenty-one teams from Edina, St. Louis Park, Burnsville and Minnetonka have registered to play. The 4-on-4 and 3-on-3 teams will play on three rinks set up on the pond with boards and goals.

The Kirsch family plans to make Quinn's Cup an annual event, Quinn's father, Kyle, said in a statement.

“Our family has been overwhelmed with the enthusiasm and support for the first Quinn’s Cup,”,” he said. “We are excited to host an event we feel that kids and parents will enjoy, while at the same time honoring our son with something he loved to do—playing hockey on a backyard rink.”

The Myocarditis Foundation will be on-site to educate attendees.

Kirsch, a third-grader at Our Lady of Grace Catholic School, was remembered by teachers for "his friendliness."

"His classmates always enjoyed being with him whether it was for a school project or a football game during recess," principal Maureen Trenary told Patch last January. "Students wanted to be in his presence. His teachers will always remember is smile, his trademark."
