'Financial Football' and I-494 Questions Answered

Also this week: Minnetonka swimming returns to state tournament.

Commissioner of the Minnesota Department of Commerce Mike Rothman, Minnesota Vikings Wide Receiver Greg Jennings and representatives from Visa Inc. will be at Hopkins High School on Tuesday, Nov. 19 at 10 a.m.

They will be there for the statewide launch of an educational video game and classroom curriculum called Financial Football. The event will announce a new partnership among the state of Minnesota, the NFL, NFL players and Visa in promoting financial education.

As part of the event, Jennings and the Rothman will coach the students, divided into teams, in a high-energy game of Financial Football projected onto a big screen at the front of the room.

I-494 Open House

MnDOT is planning a project involving seven miles of I-494, between I-394 and I-694. MnDOT representatives will be available to discuss the project and the noise barrier voting process from 4-6 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 19, at Plymouth City Hall.

The project includes reconstructing the roadway pavement and several bridges, building noise barriers and incorporating a dynamic shoulder between Highway 55 and East Fish Lake Road. Construction is scheduled to take place from June 2014 through November 2016.

An informal open house is scheduled from 4–6 p.m., with a general project presentation and Q & A session from 6–6:30 p.m. A noise wall presentation and Q & A session is scheduled from 6:30–7 p.m.


Minnetonka Swimming at State

The Skippers finished first among the eight teams that competed in the 6AA Section Championships, earning a total 515 points to top Eden Prairie (476 points) and Edina (462 points).

Minnetonka qualifies 14 athletes for the state meet, 20 individual entries and 3 relays. Minnetonka qualifies at least one entry in every event at the state meet.
The Class AA State Diving competition is Nov. 18-20 at the University of Minnesota Aquatic Center. 


Business Women's Network Sip & Shop

Ladies, you are invited to a sip, shop at over a dozen vendors and business-card exchange featuring complimentary appetizers and drinks. The event is Wednesday, Nov. 20 at 5:30 p.m. at The Commons (14451 Minnesota 7).


Consider Getting Involved

If you want to be involved in Minnetonka's local government, consider applying for the Economic Development Advisory or Planning commissions.

Openings are available on both commissions. To apply, complete the application. Completed applications may be saved electronically and emailed to Karen Telega at ktelega@eminnetonka.com. Applications should be submitted as soon as possible, but no later than Jan. 3. Applicants are interviewed by the city council and appointed by the mayor.
