Area faith communities are looking for 700 volunteers to join-in this year's Community Days of Service event, scheduled to take place tomorrow and Sunday.
is an annual event, organized and led by local faith communities, to help area schools, city parks and charitable community organizations in Minnetonka, Hopkins and St. Louis Park.
Minnetonka’s Marie Levitus is one of the volunteers who will represent . Since losing her job in December, she’s thrown herself into volunteer work, and she said she’s very excited about the opportunity for Synagogue and Church members to live out their faith through their service at this event.
"We want to develop relationships with our neighborhood and friends and support agencies in need, in our town,” Levitus said. “We have a lofty goal of 700 volunteers for the weekend."
The initiative began with a 2009 meeting between city and faith community leaders. Now ten congregations join together for a two-day event.
"It's very exciting,” Levitus said. “It’s great to see the faith communities work side by side to support the community at large."
