We Can Ride Runs Lengths Ahead of Fundraising Goal

The organization raised more than $28,000 to care for its horses.

Minnetonka nonprofit We Can Ride galloped past its fundraising goal for its inaugural Buy a Bale or Bucket fundraiser.

The therapeutic riding program for people with physical or cognitive disabilities aimed to raise $17,000 by Aug. 16 but wound up bringing in more than $28,000 to care for the horses, the organization announced Wednesday.

Raising money was critical since hay and feed prices have risen dramatically over the past year.

We Can Ride also hosted a contest in which people made donations in the name of their favorite horse. The winner for the Minnetonka location was Buddy—a 25-year-old Appaloosa/quarter horse gelding who’s been with the organization since 2009. Buddy will receive a carrot cake party with his human friends and be named Horse of the Year for the Minnetonka site.
