Volunteer and Giving Opportunities in Minnetonka

As the holidays approach, take some time to lend a helping hand.

This is just a short list of the many possibilities to volunteer in Minnetonka. Do you know of an organization who needs help? Tell us below in the comments.

Secondhand Hounds
You can be a foster family or volunteer for Secondhand Hounds. Secondhand Hounds is a non-profit animal rescue. Founded in July of 2009, their many volunteers have made a positive impact on the lives of many dogs and cats in our community. The organization provides safe shelter, proper veterinary care and daily necessities for animals at risk, while working hard to find each a permanent, loving home.

Minnetonka Ice Rinks
Since 2006, the city has used adult volunteers to expand the operating hours at city park warming house locations beyond regularly scheduled hours. Additional volunteers are needed for this season at Meadow, Covington, Spring Hill, Boulder Creek, Gro Tonka and McKenzie parks. The season is scheduled to start in mid-December and run through mid-February.

Backpack Tutors Toy and Clothing Drive for Folwell School
For many years Minnetonka Backpack Tutors have worked with at risk elementary students at Folwell School. Help us make their holidays a little brighter by donating new or gently used toys and winter apparel. Donation boxes will be in the Main and West entrances at MHS from Dec. 2-13.

Minnewashta Secret Shop & Holiday Boutique needs volunteers Dec. 7
Student volunteers are needed to help at this annual event where Minnewashta students and their families can come and purchase holiday gifts at a shop set up right in the school gym. They especially need volunteers to help students shop for something secret for their moms and dads. All proceeds go to either the Community Family Giving Program or the Minnewashta PTO.

Love In(Deed)
Mark your calendars for the last service opportunity of this year. The next 'LOVE IN[DEED] Just Show Up and Serve' date is Dec. 7. A variety of opportunities are available. All ages are welcome - it's a great way for families to serve together.

ResourceWest Toy Chest 2013 needs donations
You can make this holiday season a little brighter for the children in our community. Consider donating new, unwrapped toys to children in need in our community. Donations can be dropped off now through Dec. 16 at ResourceWest in Hopkins.
