Five Minnetonka Nonprofits

Non-profits are making their mark by offering valuable services to residents and visitors.

Founded in 1953 by a group of visionary parents who knew their teenage children with disabilities could be contributing members of the community if given a chance, Opportunity Partners has always focused on the abilities of people. Today, Opportunity Partners provides employment, training and residential services to 1,500 people with disabilities annually. Part of its mission involves providing companies’ quality business solutions ranging from contracted work teams to individual candidates for jobs. Opportunity Partners is redefining “disability” through advanced learning, deep community support and meaningful work – proving that everyone, when given the opportunity, adds value to our world.

Since the recession, many families have struggled to put food on the table, provide their children with warm clothes for the winter or give their families a happy holiday season due to lack of funds.  ResourceWest assists families and individuals with bridging that gap and provides education and referrals on other county and city services available to citizens.

Minnetonka Diamond Club

The Minnetonka Diamond Club was established in 2003 as a baseball booster club and has since evolved into an umbrella fundraising entity for softball, baseball and football that raises $400,000 per year. The money raised helps repay an annual $375,000 note on Veterans and Legacy Fields. No taxpayer money has been used to pay for these fields.  This beautiful complex gets "touched" by more than 3,000 kids every year.

Music Association of Minnetonka

Founded in 1974, the MAM provides enriching classical musical experiences for people of all ages and abilities. The association encompasses nine choral and orchestral ensembles with more than 300 performing members. Approximately 50 concerts are performed each year for neighbors, friends and members of the community. The season schedule reflects years of dedication to the idea that a community can coalesce around music and that concerts are much more than entertainment. Music is meant to be heard. Community leaders along with association volunteers and sponsors are committed to keeping the Music Association of Minnetonka viable and accessible to both performers and audiences.

Honorable Mention: Minnetonka Family Friends
