Engines Revving, Locals Support Tonka Food Shelf

Saturday's fundraiser featured a small fleet of vintage cars and a petting zoo.

They call her “Lipstick.”

She is a 1950 Chevrolet Bel Air owned by Steve Dean and his wife, Connie, of Minnetonka. The Deans bought her about five years ago and say she spent most of her life in Las Vegas. She's painted a magenta color that shimmers in the sunlight and she's a model from the first year Chevy sold cars with automatic transmissions.

“Lipstick” was one of about 20 classic autos in Excelsior Saturday for a car show organized to help support the . She was joined by a 1939 Rolls Royce and a wide array of vintage American sports and muscle cars—all parked neatly at Mason Motors on Water Street for any and all to admire.

Dozens of kids had a chance to get up close to “Pumpkin” the pony, a puppy named “Steve” and “Charlie” the goat, who faints when he gets too excited. The Cameo Tesserae Salon in Excelsior sponsored the petting zoo. Stylists at the salon collected canned good donations from customers in advance of Saturday’s car show and were one of many local supporters of the show and food drive.
